EXTRA EXTRA! RULINGS REVERSAL!
News by: The Garou Rim Gazette(facebook)
As opposed to what I informed the Kindred-kind last week, there has been a recent reversal of effective strikes with additional effects!
Last time it was ruled that cards like Lam Into or Righteous Blade would not grant their Press if the strike was performed at long range, as the strike in its entirety would not be effective.
It was found LSJ had ruled this contrary to Ankha years before.
NEW CLARIFICATION
As clarified by Ankha on their VEKN post (see link in the comments), there is now a list of negative effects that are not effective if the strike itself was not effective for whatever reason (usually range). This includes damage and manipulating cards attached to the target.
However, effects that are not directed at the target themselves would still apply, since the strike does not need to "land", in a sense, for the striking participant to benefit. This includes effects like Presses, which are something that the sword wielder themselves gains, not something imposed on the opponent.
Overall this is a very welcome change and makes, arguably, the game flow more intuitive: if a card says something happens, it actually happens, despite minutiae in the rule book. This should lead to better player experience especially in the neonyte crowd.
There are still rules questions pending, such as if Scobax is usable while a block attempt is being made (I'll link that discussion to the comments as well, since it's very interesting), but games as complex as VTES are never "finished". @black_chantry have their work cut out for them.
